Began my riding classes today morning. Don’t know who was more jittery – the horse or me. Unlike other forms of transportation that are mechanical, in riding you have to contend and risk the temperament of the horse as well. I have heard of many friends being tossed off unceremoniously or having their horses kicked by another one that led to a war of sorts. Nevertheless, it was smooth sailing for me on the first day. It takes a lot of getting used to – dig your heel low, keep your legs close to the horse’s tummy, go up and down to avoid injuring him, keep your back straight, keep the thighs locked, don’t bend forward. As you can imagine, coordinating such a large set of instructions took all my energy. By the end of it, I don’t know who was more tired – me in my attempt to save my buttocks and exercise my legs or the horse trying to ignore my weight and wobbly movements. Well, tomorrow should be a better day :).
