This Diwali, I brought books to gift to close friends and family. Three Cups of Tea, Jhumpa Lahiri, Amitav Ghosh, Mr.God this is Anna………In the process, Satya also gifted me a book which my sister had been speaking off for very long. I have only read the first 100 pages till now – The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Anyway , getting back to the book, it is the story of a couple where the man is a time traveler. Henry has what they term a “Chrono Displacement” disorder; he comes and goes in the future and past, to places and times of importance in his life.. His only anchor in these time movements is his wife, whom he keeps meeting at different times in their lives – so he mets her at 6, then at 16…The story is told in direct, conversational style, where both characters are narrating their lives, perspectives, tribulations, joys and sorrows. Some of the lines really touch the heart.
Initially, it is a bit confusing, trying to keep up with Henry’s travels but gradually it seems to piece together. Inspite of it, and actually maybe that is its magic – the story is very special. More when I am finished.
