That’s a new record even for me – Welcome to Sajjanpur yesterday and Rock On today. Two entirely different generation of movies and both, simply superb. Like Laali said, welcome to sajjanpur has the malgudi days feel to it. The story is simple with many evocative messages . Shyam Benegal has successfully interwoven the myriad social issues of today – widow remarriage, politics, eunuchs etc with subtle humor. No low cut, obnoxiously clothed village women here, or too much singing dancing. The story holds its won for the two hours.
Rock On – I am in love all over again :). Farhan Akhtar fits into the rock star shoes effortlessly. Watching them all – Arjun Rampal, Purab and Kenny – took me back to school and college days when rock concerts and lead singers were gods. Of course, gods changed seasonally! Somehow the ‘magik’ group, reminded me of Strings. I am sure this may have been Farhan Akhtar’s second career choice if everything else had failed. By the end of it, I was cheering them from my seat and chewing my nails as Rampal made the choice between going back to perform or his job. Truly, I am smitten and for now, plan to go see it again with my sister.
